Capitalizing on Stream’s presence on Roku, FireTV, and Smart TVs - we meet customers where they were and offer them a Flex experience.
Users would get access to un-gated Xfinity Stream on a trial basis, exposing a larger audience - both inside and, potentially, outside our footprint - to all Stream offers. For users who want to continue the Stream Experience, we extend the trial and give them a Flex box thereby providing both continued access to Stream and Flex features a more powerful voice remote, a content-forward UI, and access to more content like Peacock Premium.

Design pivots from trial offer to incorporating Xfinity Stream into the Flex back by recreating the app in the Lightning framework.  This way, Flex box users could purchase T6 content packages just as Roku users can. The next steps include reevaluating the UI to more closely resemble X1 without also inheriting its bloat.

Vertical vs Horizontal navigation

A competitive analysis showed 10ft streaming services split relatively evenly: half-used vertical navigations, half-used horizontal. I argued for vertical navigation for several reasons:

  • the Flex remote (XR16) does not have a menu button like X1 remotes.
  • vertical navigation facilitates easy scanning.
  • more scalable than horizontal navigation.
  • more space on the main page for sub-navigation and filtering.
  • consistent navigation structure across all Stream platforms.
